A Message from the Superintendent

2/8/19

Dear Parents/Guardians,

January and February have proven to be difficult months in terms of weather.  We also used an emergency day in September, due to a water main break.  Due to these difficult conditions we have lost 13 days of attendance to date.  The district had 5 emergency days built into the original calendar and those have been used.  As a result, the last day of school for students this year will be on May 28.

In order to recapture some of the remaining days, we will make some additional changes to the original calendar.  Please update your calendars with the following information:

  • The School Improvement Day scheduled for February 15 will now be a regular day of attendance for students.

  • Presidents’ Day on February 18 will now be a regular day of attendance for students.

  • The School Improvement Day scheduled for March 15 will now be a regular day of attendance for students.

  • The last day of Easter Break, April 22 will now be a regular day of attendance for students.

  • The last day of school for students will be May 28.

  • Please note that Illini West High School has chosen to make April 18th a student attendance day, but Carthage Elementary School District WILL NOT be in session that day.

We appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we work to preserve instructional time for our students.  If you have any questions regarding these changes, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s attendance center.

Sincerely,

Vicki Hardy, Interim Superintendent
