Carthage Primary School Receives ‘EXEMPLARY’ Designation From ISBE!

October 30, 2019

The Illinois State Board of Education today released the annual Illinois School Report Card, which provides a detailed look at each school’s progress on academics, student success, school culture and climate, and financial investments. Carthage Primary School has received a summative designation of ‘Exemplary’ this year. Exemplary schools are those performing in the top 10% of those statewide, with no underperforming student groups. This designation was based on eight indicators of academic success and school quality. The best indicator overall for Carthage Primary this year was student growth in Math. CPS had a 77% Growth Percentile in Math, the measure of student growth from one year to the next. That compares with a 50% Growth Percentile for the State overall. Another highlight was the school’s English/Language Arts scores on the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). Fifty-two percent of Carthage Primary students met or exceeded state standards on the test compared to 38% of students statewide. Other highlights include a teacher retention rate of 90%, a supportive environment, and ambitious instruction.
