We want to inform you of an ongoing challenge that our district is facing regarding transportation to extracurricular activities. Currently, we do not have bus drivers to transport students to all upcoming spring 2025 extracurricular events (girls’/boys’ track and scholastic bowl). Unfortunately, at this time, if your student is wanting to participate in a spring activity/extracurricular event, a parent or guardian will need to transport their child to and from the event. The coach/sponsor is not able to transport students. The district wanted to provide time for parents/guardians to plan for alternative transportation. Field trips that are scheduled for this spring may be impacted as well. More information will follow regarding a change in field trips, if necessary. We apologize for the inconvenience; we have exhausted all our options coming to this conclusion.
Please know we are always seeking to bring on additional bus drivers. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a bus driver, please contact our Transportation Director, Kristi Thompson at the district office at 217-357-3922 or kthompson@cesd317.org for more details on the position.
If we can hire a qualified candidate, we are hopeful this issue will be resolved for the start of the 2025-2026 school year. We will continue to keep families informed of any changes. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
